This was Nasir Hussain's first film as a producer. He launched his own banner with it.
A misunderstanding between Nasir Husain and Shammi Kapoor led to them parting ways for this film after two big hits - "Tumsa Nahin Dekha" (1957) and "Dil Deke Dekho" (1959). Husain ended up casting Dev Anand in the role he had originally planned for Shammi Kapoor. As providence would have it, Dev Anand took up this role at the expense of Subodh Mukherjee's "Mr. Hitler". A miffed Subodh Mukherjee then approached Shammi Kapoor, who liked the script but suggested a change in title. It was thus that Shammi Kapoor landed a milestone film in his career, "Junglee" (1961).[1][2][3][MR15]
The hit song "Aaj Kal Tere Mere Pyar Ke Charche" ("Brahmachari", 1968) was passed over in two films - this film and "Suraj" (1966) - before Shammi Kapoor okayed it for "Brahmachari" (1968).[4][5][MR15]
Song
Jab Pyar Kisi Se Hota Hai (Jiya O Jiya O Jiya Kuch Bol Do) - Female - The tune of the song's mukhda was plagiarised from the song "Broken Hearted Melody" composed by Sherman Edwards and written by Hal David. Sarah Vaughan's 1959 recording of the song was a big hit. [6]
Teri Zulfon Se Judai To Nahin Maangi Thi - Nasir Husain consulted with Vijay Anand before shooting the film's climax and added this song to it based on his advice. The film did well and a grateful Husain asked Anand to direct his next film, "Teesri Manzil" (1966). Vijay Anand agreed to direct his first film outside the Navketan banner for Husain provided Dev Anand starred in it. "Teesri Manzil" (1966) was announced with Vijay Anand at the helm and a subsequent announcement revealed that Dev Anand had joined the film's cast. However, Dev quit the film following an argument with Husain at a party at the filmmaker's house. Vijay Anand stayed on since he believed it would be unprofessional to walk out from the film over a matter that did not directly concern him.[7][MR52]
Sau Saal Pehle Mujhe Tumse Pyar Tha - Music director Veda used the tune of this song for the Tamil film song "Manam Ennum" ("Vallavanukku Vallavan", 1965). "Vallavanukku Vallavan" (1965) itself was a remake of the Hindi film "Ustadon Ke Ustad" (1963).[8][9]
Jab Pyar Kisi Se Hota Hai (Jiya O Jiya O Jiya Kuch Bol Do) - Male - Three cover versions of this song were recorded for the film "Jia Aur Jia" (2017).[10]
Mohabbat Isko Kahte Hain (Bin Dekhe Aur Bin Pehchane) - The tune of the song's mukhda was inspired by Ron Goodwin's composition "Dancing Eyes".[11]
