Trivia

    Album

  • This film was based on the American film "Annie" (1982). "Annie" itself was based on a Broadway musical with the same title, which in turn was adapted from a comic strip called "Little Orphan Annie".
  • Amitabh Bachchan was supposed to play the role that was eventually played by Jackie Shroff in this film. When Rakesh Roshan pitched this film to Shah Rukh Khan, he told him that he would be cast with Amitabh Bachchan. Interestingly, Roshan offered this film to Shah Rukh at a restaurant where Amitabh happened to be dining at the time.[MR23]
  • Hrithik Roshan began his Bollywood journey as an assistant director in his father's films. This was one of the four films he assisted Rakesh Roshan with. The other films were "Khudgarz" (1987), "Karan Arjun" (1995) and "Koyla" (1997).[1][2][3]

    Song

  • Is Jahan Ki Nahin Hai - The first time Shah Rukh Khan travelled abroad for a film was to shoot for this song. This was, in fact, the first song he ever filmed.[MR23]
  • Taare Aasman Ke Dharti Pe Kisne Utaare - This song was plagiarised from the song "Jambo Bwana" (1982) by the Kenyan band Them Mushrooms. The whistle in this song was sampled from the song "Joyride" (1991) by Roxette.[4][5]
