This film was said to be inspired by the film "Paranormal Activity" (2007). Producer Ekta Kapoor acknowledged the similarities between the films but stated that they were due to the fact that both the films belonged to the found footage genre. It was also speculated that the film was loosely adapted from Stephen King's novel "Gerald's Game" (1992). The novel was later adapted for the Hollywood horror thriller of the same title released in 2017.[1]
A woman, known only by her first name Deepika, alleged that this film was based on her life and that the explicit scenes in the film had adversely affected her. Ekta Kapoor responded by saying that the film was only inspired by one incident in Deepika's life and that she had been made aware of these scenes in advance.[2]
The Hindi film song "Raat Akeli Hai" ("Jewel Thief", 1967) composed by S.D. Burman, written by Majrooh Sultanpuri, and sung by Asha Bhosle was used in this film as-is. The song was included in the film's audio CD but was not part of its music album on digital platforms. The audio CD also included two bonus tracks. These were recreated versions of the Hindi film songs "Chura Liya Hai Tumne Jo Dil Ko" ("Yaadon Ki Baaraat", 1973) and "Dum Maaro Dum" ("Hare Rama Hare Krishna", 1971). The two songs were recreated by DJ Aqeel and sung by Anusha Manchanda. Their original versions were composed by R.D. Burman and sung by Asha Bhosle.[3][4][5]
This film was followed by a sequel in 2014. Other than Kainaz Motivala, who played the same character in both films, the sequel had a different set of cast and crew members.[6]
This was Pavan Kirpalani's directorial debut.
