This film was launched in 1988 as a follow-up to "Mr. India" (1987), with some of its key cast and crew being part of this film as well. Director Shekhar Kapur left the film midway following an altercation with producer Boney Kapoor over the delay in its production. The film was then taken over by Kapur's long-time assistant, Satish Kaushik. This film was Satish Kaushik's directorial debut. Kaushik also took over another film Shekhar Kapur was supposed to do for Boney Kapoor, "Prem" (1995).[1][2][3]
The delays in this film's production resulted in significant cost escalation. This coupled with its failure at the box office made this film one of the biggest flops of all time.[4]
