Trivia

    Album

  • Karan Johar launched three debutant actors as leads in this film - his former assistant Siddharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt, the daughter of Mahesh Bhatt and Soni Razdan, and Varun Dhawan, the son David Dhawan. Boman Irani's son Kayoze Irani also debuted in the film. Boman Irani himself made a cameo appearance in the film but did not share screen space with his son.
  • This was Karan Johar's fifth film as a director and the first time he directed a film without Shah Rukh Khan.
  • This film was followed by a spiritual successor in 2019. The sequel was directed by Punit Malhotra.[1]
  • The film featured cover versions of popular Hindi film songs. The cover version of "Taarif Karoon Kya Uski" ("Kashmir Ki Kali", 1964) was sung by Nikhil D'Souza, "Papa Kehte Hain" ("Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak", 1988) by Shekhar Ravjiani, and "Gulabi Aankhen Jo Teri Dekhi" ("The Train", 1970) by Shefali Alvarez.[2][3][4]
  • This was Sana Saeed's first adult role. After working as a child artist in a number of films, she had taken a break from acting and made a comeback in this film. She is best known for her debut film "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai" (1998) which was also Karan Johar's directorial debut.[5]
  • Real-life husband and wife Ram and Gautami Kapoor played a couple in the film as well.

    Song

  • Radha - A criminal case was registered against director Karan Johar, producer Gauri Khan, and others for hurting the religious sentiments of the Hindu community by referring to Radha as "sexy" in this song.[6]
  • Radha - This song featured the mukhda of the song "Dafliwale Dafli Baja" ("Sargam", 1979) in Shreya Ghoshal's voice. Rishi Kapoor reprised his act from the original song in this sequence. The original song was composed by Laxmikant - Pyarelal, written by Anand Bakshi, and sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Mohammed Rafi.[7]
  • Radha - Hollywood star Will Smith made a cameo appearance in the film "Student Of The Year 2" (2019) with a dance performance to this song. His performance for the song was part of a Facebook show called "Will Smith's Bucket List". The reality show had Smith performing an item on his bucket list for each episode. His appearance in "Student Of The Year 2" (2019) was shot for an episode titled "Bollywood Dancing".[8][9]
  • Ishq Wala Love - This song was a big hit. A Marathi film released in 2014 took its title from the song.
  • The Disco Song - This was a recreated version of the pop song "Disco Deewane" composed by Biddu and written by Anwar Khalid. The song's mukhda had the same tune as "Disco Deewane" and even sampled Nazia Hussain's vocals from the original. However, the antara had a different tune and lyrics.[10]
  • The Disco Song - Kajol made a cameo appearance in the film for this song.
