Bharat Vyas (1918-1982) was a renowned lyricist in the Hindi film industry during the 1950s and 60s.
Born in Churu, Rajasthan on 18 December 1918, he moved to Bombay after finishing his studies in Calcutta. In Bollywood, the first film he wrote lyrics for was “Duhaai” (1943).
He is most remembered for songs like “Ae Chaand Na Itaraana” (“Mann Ki Jeet”, 1944), “Ae Malik Tere Bande Hum” (“Do Aankhen Barah Haath”, 1957) and “Yeh Kaun Chitrakaar Hai” (“Boond Jo Ban Gayi Moti”, 1967).
His lines have been rendered eternal by the likes of Lata Mangeshkar, Mahendra Kapoor, Manna Dey, Mohammed Rafi. Asha Bhosle, Mukesh, Uma Devi, Meena Kapoor and Suman Kalyanpur.
He also tried his hands in film direction with “Rangeela Rajasthan” (1949) and a few other Rajasthani films.
Bharat Vyas passed away in Mumbai on July 4, 1982 while working on a few projects.
