Trivia

    Album

  • The film was originally envisioned as an experimental black & white film in Marathi starring Sandhya and Arun Sarnaik. However, filmmaker V. Shantaram later decided to make it as a colour film in Hindi. While the film was shot in colour, its opening credits were displayed over a black & white shot of a closed door. V. Shantaram comes out of this door when his "Screenplay And Direction" credits are displayed. He then proceeds to talk about the inspiration behind the film. According to Shantaram, his eyes got injured while shooting the bullfighting sequence in "Do Ankhen Barah Haath" (1957). He feared that he would lose his eyesight and not be able to make films again. At the same time, he said he experienced life more vividly during the days his eyes were covered by bandages that rendered him visionless. It was this experience that Shantaram wanted to share with the audience through this film. The film transitioned to colour in the next shot displaying the film's title.[1][2]
  • Vasant Desai, the in-house music director of the Rajkamal Kalamandir banner, started composing music for this film but left the project over differences with filmmaker V. Shantaram. It was only then that C. Ramchandra was brought in.[MR4]
  • Mahendra Kapoor, who had debuted earlier with two songs in "Mudmast" (1953), bagged four songs in this film as a result of winning the Metro Murphy singing competition held in 1957. Each of the five judges of the competition - Anil Biswas, Naushad, C. Ramchandra, Vasant Desai, and Madan Mohan - had promised to record a Hindi film song with him as a reward for his win. While C. Ramchandra gave him four songs in this film, he recorded two songs in "Char Dil Char Rahen" (1959) for Anil Biswas, a song in "Sohni Mahiwal" (1958) for Naushad, one song in "Ek Shola" (1958) for Madan Mohan, and a song in "Do Behnen" (1959) for Vasant Desai. Among all these opportunities, it was his work in this film that catapulted him to fame.[3][4][5][6][7]

    Song

  • Kavi Raja Kavita Ke Mat Ab Kaan Marodo - This poem, recited by lyricist Bharat Vyas himself, was a deeply personal one written by him in the early stages of his career when he was struggling to make ends meet. Agha lip-synced the poem in the film.[8]
  • Are Ja Re Hat Natkhat - Jeetendra made an uncredited cameo appearance in this film. This was one of the two songs in the film in which the actor made an appearance. He was the masked male dancer in this song.
  • Are Ja Re Hat Natkhat - Shankar - Ehsaan - Loy sampled Asha Bhosle's vocals in the mukhda of this song for a song in the film "Mere Pyare Prime Minister" (2019).[9]
  • Tu Chhupi Hai Kahan - Jeetendra made an uncredited cameo appearance in this film. This was one of the two songs in the film in which the actor made an appearance. According to him, he was one of the many princes seen in the background. Jeetendra landed this film through the recommendation of his father who used to supply artificial jewellery to filmmakers. He apparently turned up late on the set on his first day. He was chided by director V. Shantaram and turned away from the set. Shantaram had a change of heart the next day when Jeetendra showed up early the next day and apologised to him.[10][11]
