Sudha Malhotra is an Indian playback singer who was popular in the 1950s and 60s. Born on 30 November 1936 in Delhi, she grew up in Lahore, Bhopal and Firozpur and is a graduate in music from Agra University.
It was music director Ghulam Haider who discovered and promoted her as a child artist in the movie “Arzoo” (1950) where she sang “Milaa Gaye Nain”. She went on to sing in movies like “Mirza Ghalib” (1954), “Narsi Bhagat” (1957), “Ab Dilli Door Nahin” (1957), “Girlfriend” (1960) and “Barsaat Ki Raat” (1960).
Some of her popular songs are “Tum Meri Rakho Laaj Hari” (“Dekh Kabira Roya”, 1957), “Hum Tumhare Hain” (“Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi”, 1958), “Kaa Se Kahun Mann Ki Baat” (“Dhool Ka Phool”, 1959) and “Salaam-e-Hasrat Qubool Kar Lo” (“Baabar”, 1960). The last song that she sang in Bollywood was “Yeh Pyar Tha Ya Kuch Aur Tha” in Raj Kapoor’s movie “Prem Rog” (1982).
