Talat Aziz is a playback and ghazal singer who hails from Hyderabad.
Born on 11 Novemeber 1956 to Abdul Azeem Khan and Sajida Abid, a famous Urdu writer and poet, he grew up in a house that often hosted Mehfils with the likes of Jagjit Singh and Jan Nisaar Akhtar. Aziz is also tennis player Sania Mirza’s uncle.
Though initially trained in the Kirana Gharana by Ustad Samad Khan and Ustad Fayaz Ahmed, by 1978 he was under the tutelage of Mehdi Hassan. Three years after he moved to Mumbai as per Jagjit Singh’s advice, he released his first album under the mentorship of Jagit titled “Jagjit Singh Presents Talat Aziz” in 1979. He went on to record many more albums like “Lehren” (1983), “Ehsaas” (1984), “Manzil” (1988), “Shahkaar” (1997), “Khubsoorat” (2000), “Khushnuma” (2003) and “Caravan-e-Ghazal” (2009). Teleserials like Deewar, Baaz, Adhikaar, Ghutan, Aashirwad and Nida Fazli’s Noorjehan, all had songs composed by him. He even acted in some of these productions.
Some of the popular movie songs sung by Talat Aziz include “Zindagi Jab Bhi” from “Umrao Jaan” (1981), “Phir Chhidi Raat” from “Bazaar” (1982), “Aaina Mujhse Meri” from “Daddy” (1991) and “Na Kisi Ki Aankh Ka” from “Shararat” (2002).
