Trivia

    Album

  • After his success as a director in "Baazi" (1951) and "Jaal" (1952), Guru Dutt wanted to launch his own production house but did not have the financial means to do so. Seeing his predicament, Geeta Bali got her sister Hardarshan Kaur to help finance this film. Hardarshan Kaur was credited as the film's producer. H.G. Films, the banner formed to produce the film, probably took its name from Hardarshan and Guru Dutt. This was the only film produced by the banner. Guru Dutt launched his own production house, Guru Dutt Films, to produce his next film "Aar Paar" (1954). Hardarshan was credited as a producer in one other film, "Raag Rang" (1952), directed by her brother Digvijay Singh Bali and starring Geeta Bali.[1][2][3][4][MR15]
  • This was Guru Dutt's first film in a lead role. It was actress Geeta Bali who convinced him to play the lead role in it. Dutt had appeared in minor roles previously in "Lakharani" (1945) and "Hum Ek Hain" (1946).[5][6][MR15]
  • This was the first film in which Johnny Walker used the screen name he was known by for the rest of his career. He was credited as Badruddin in his previous films, starting with his debut film "Baazi" (1951).[7]

    Song

  • Taare Chandni Afsane Sama Pyar Ke Hain Suhane - The tune of this song's mukhda may have been inspired by the American folk song "Red River Valley". The origins of "Red River Valley" are uncertain but it was likely composed and written in the late 1800s. Many artists have recorded it over the years, including Woody Guthrie, Gene Autry, Bill Haley, Bing Crosby and Connie Francis.[8]
  • Mujhe Dekho Hasrat Ki Tasveer Hoon Main - This was Talat Mahmood's first Hindi film song for O.P. Nayyar. He sang for Nayyar just one more time for the film "Sone Ki Chidiya" (1958). Talat was keen to sing more songs for Nayyar but couldn't do so because the music director preferred Mohammed Rafi.[9][MR4]
