Trivia

    Album

  • Shah Rukh Khan had a double role in the film. He played a film star in his forties, named Aryan Khanna, and a 25-year-old fan of the star, Gaurav Chandna. The film star's name was inspired by the name of Shah Rukh's son, Aryan Khan. A few shots in the film used real footage of Shah Rukh Khan giving interviews and at award functions to depict Aryan Khanna. A combination of makeup, prosthetics, and VFX was used to make Shah Rukh look like a 25-year-old. The film employed the makeup artist Greg Cannom, a three-time Oscar award winner and a nine-time nominee, for Shah Rukh's transformation into Gaurav Chandna.[1]
  • Director Maneesh Sharma had conceived this film even before he had debuted with "Band Baaja Baaraat" (2010). He had pitched the idea to Aditya Chopra in 2006 after assisting in YRF films like "Fanaa" (2006) and "Aaja Nachle" (2007). Chopra had told him that he didn't want such an ambitious and expensive film to be his first. He had asked him to come up with another idea instead. It was then that Sharma had come up with the idea that went on to become "Band Baaja Baaraat" (2010). He directed two more films for YRF - "Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl" (2011) and "Shuddh Desi Romance" (2013) - before this film was resurrected. While promoting the film, Shah Rukh Khan revealed that Yash Chopra had first narrated the story to him a decade ago - around the time Sharma had first pitched it to Aditya Chopra.[2][3][4][5][6][7]
  • Sushant Jain, the owner of Ghantewala Sweets, sent a legal notice to the makers of this film for trademark infringement. The notice stated that Ghantewala Sweets did not wish to be associated with the film and charged the filmmakers with trademark infringement for using their brand prominently without permission. Interestingly, the Ghantewala brand had featured in a scene in another YRF film earlier - Yash Chopra's "Chandni" (1989). The sweet shop was also said to be featured in the climax of "Chandni Chowk" (1954), directed by Yash Chopra's brother B.R. Chopra.[8][9][10]
  • This was said to be the first film to be shot on the premises of the Madame Tussauds wax museum in London. The museum also displayed a wax statue of the eponymous character played by Shah Rukh Khan to promote the film.[11][12]

    Song

  • Jabra Fan - While the film did not feature any song, this song was used to promote it. The Hindi song was released as a single. Additionally, an album was released featuring the song in seven versions of the song in seven languages. Other than Hindi, the album included songs in Punjabi, Bhojpuri, Gujarati, Marathi, Bengali, and Tamil. An Arabic version of the song was also released.
  • Jabra Fan - A teacher from Aurangabad, Maharashtra filed a complaint with the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) against the makers of the film. She said that she felt "cheated" because the filmmakers had used the song for publicity but not included it in the film. In 2017, after the proceedings dragged on for several months, the commission ordered Yash Raj Films to pay the woman Rs. 15,000 as compensation.[13]
