सामान्य ज्ञान

    एल्बम

  • This film was inspired by the Tamil film "Thanga Pathakkam" (1974) starring Sivaji Ganesan. Producers Mushir - Riaz had bought the rights to the Tamil film's script but Salim - Javed had ended up rewriting almost all of it. "Thanga Pathakkam" itself was based on a play by the same name and was also remade into the Telugu film "Kondaveeti Simham" (1981). It may also have inspired the Kannada film "Kadamba" (2004). "Kondaveeti Simham" was remade into the Hindi film "Farz Aur Kaanoon" (1982).[1][2]
  • This was the only Hindi film that featured actors Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan together. While Dilip Kumar was Ramesh Sippy's first choice, the director had initially considered a newcomer to play his son since he didn't think that an established actor would agree to play a role which would probably be overshadowed by Dilip Kumar. Sippy even screen-tested Raj Babbar for the role. However, the film's casting fell in place when Amitabh Bachchan heard about the film, approached Sippy and offered to play the role of the son in the film.[3]
  • This film was in the making for a long time.
  • One of the producers of this film, Mushir Alam, was kidnapped during the making of this film. The kidnappers had demanded a ransom of 20 lakh rupees but had settled for an amount of a little over 2 lakhs. The police had cracked the case and arrested members of the Amirzada-Alamzeb gang in a matter of days. The police learnt that Amirzada and Alamzeb had coerced the producer of the film "Tajurba" (1981), Ahmed Sayeed Khan, to assist them in identifying someone in the film industry they could target for extortion.[4][5][6]
  • This was writer Salim - Javed's last film release when they were still together. Two films written by them were released after their split - "Zamana" (1985) and "Mr. India" (1987).[7][8]
  • This was the first film in which Rakhee played the role of an older woman. Despite being four years younger than Amitabh Bachchan, she played his mother in this film. Director Ramesh Sippy convinced her to play this role by saying that she was anyway playing roles opposite Amitabh and would continue to do so, but she would probably not get another chance to be paired with the legendary Dilip Kumar. Raakhee had agreed to work in the film but would later jokingly tell Sippy that he had killed her career.[9]
