Trivia

    Album

  • This film was an adaptation of the Greek political novel "Z" (1966) written by Vassilis Vassilikos. The novel was inspired by the real-life events surrounding the assassination of the Greek politician Grigoris Lambrakis in 1963. "Z" had been adapted earlier for a French-language film of the same title in 1969.
  • The character played by Abhay Deol in the film was loosely modeled on the IAS officer Srivatsa Krishna. The Vishnu Sahasranamam shloka chanted by Deol's character in the film was recorded by Srivatsa Krishna.[1]

    Song

  • Bharat Mata Ki Jai - A PIL (Public Interest Litigation) was filed seeking the stay of the film's release till this song was removed from it. The petition charged the song's writer Dibakar Banerjee with insulting India. The Delhi High Court dismissed the petition and refused to stay the film's release.[2]
