Javed Ali is an Indian playback singer who has been in the Hindi film industry since 2000. He is the son of qawwali singer Ustad Hamid Hussain. He started singing with his father at a very young age and was noticed by ghazal maestro Ghulam Ali, who took him under his wings. Javed Hussain assumed the name Javed Ali as a tribute to his teacher and mentor. Javed wanted to become a ghazal singer like his mentor but headed to Mumbai when he was only 15 years old when Kalyanji - Anandji beckoned.
Javed debuted with the film “Beti No.1” back in 2000 but had to struggle for several years before he was noticed. His break came with the song “Ek Din Teri Raahon Mein” from the film “Naqaab” (2007). The next hit was “Jashn-e-Bahaaraa” from A.R. Rahman’s “Jodhaa Akbar” (2008). Javed’s career flourished after that as he became an A.R. Rahman regular and even performed with him in concerts.
His other notable songs include “Nagada, Nagada” (“Jab We Met”, 2007), “Arziyan” (“Delhi - 6”, 2009), “Kilimanjaro” (“Enthiran”, 2010) and “Kun Faya Kun” (Rockstar, 2011). Javed bagged Tata Indicom Mirchi Music Award for Male Vocalist of The Year and IIFA Award for Best Male Playback for the song “Jashn-e-Bahaaraa” (“Jodhaa Akbar”, 2008). Other than Hindi, he has sung in several other languages.
